Carlsbad Wins Desalination Plant of the Year 2016

Carlsbad Desalination Plant, the largest desalination plant in the Western hemisphere, has won the prestigious Desalination Plant of the Year 2016 at the Global Water Awards. The plant supplies high quality drinking water to the surrounding area, and was originally planned to negate the impact of droughts on California’s drinking water supply.

Statiflo is extremely proud to have supplied IDE Technologies with our custom designed Desal Mixers for this record breaking project, which have contributed to minimised bio-fouling, sealing and membrane plugging within the 50 MGD plant.

The Statiflo Desal mixers are just one aspect of the cutting edge technology used within the plant that includes an innovative pre-treatment stage which results in higher efficiency, reduced energy consumption and high quality water. The plant is also the first Californian infrastructure project to completely elimnate it’s carbon footprint – this was achieved through the use of state-of-the-art energy recovery technology and an external energy offsetting programme. This in particular is an extremely impressive feat, given the high energy demand from the desalination process itself.
